"Hi-fi nirvana is the only way to describe the new range of products by mbl, which made its debut with sleek black and gold components. These appealing products from Germany , managed to cause quite a stir not only in the way they looked but more in the way they sounded. People were mesmerised, eyes glued to the strange looking contraptions as music flowed seamlessly without a trace of harshness. The 101E speaker was an achievement in itself, with an actual revolving tweeter for uniform dispersion. Encore!"

Meanwhile, here are some of my impressions. Loudspeakers, being the most visible and sonically obvious part of any hi-fi system, attract people like ants to a picnic. The buzz was created by a handful speakers, led by the absolutely lovely and radical mbl 101E hybrid . These German speakers could have passed for enormous, decorative vases with avant-garde leanings, had it not been for the highly enticing sounds emanating from them. The speakers were part of a whole mbl system on display, comprising the 1621 CD transport, 1611 D/A converter, 6010 preamp and 9011 power amp. Top of the line, nothing less! Consensus is that the 101E speaker was the head-turner at the show ."

"...Never before have I experienced...components with the rich and lifelike tone colors I'm hearing here, or ones with the kind of transparency that allows you to imagine you're "seeing" into a recording and "around" the players abd their instruments. Never before have I known any solid-state and digital with such a convincing projection of "bloom", attended by a lingering, ghostlike decay of notes and as deeply layered depth of soundstage...Buyer beware. Because these products make listening to CDs such a fresh, lively and deeply involving experience, you're likely to start spending large chunks of your discretianary income on all kinds of new music.
